Leather becomes softer with use. While maintaining a square shape suitable for business, we wanted to create a briefcase where leather takes center stage without being overly rigid. By avoiding sharp edges, we aimed to craft a bag that could be used for a long time and develop character over the years. As a result, we arrived at Tenera, which means soft. To ensure it remained ‘soft’ rather than ‘stiff,’ we went through numerous prototypes and refined many details before reaching the final design.
The cowhide leather, tanned with tannins and richly infused with oil, features a buffalo-grain embossing that helps conceal scratches even after long use. The edges are folded in to hide the cut surfaces, and the seams are kept on the inside to prevent sharp edges at the opening. The zipper is placed lower, tucked inside, to minimize the prominence of metal fittings. For the same reason, unnecessary elements such as straps, hooks, and even small screws have been completely eliminated.
On the other hand, we have equipped the bag with ample storage functionality. The exterior pockets include a large compartment for magazines or tablets and a shallow pocket for small items, designed for easy access. Inside, there is a bottle holder positioned at the edge and four inner pockets (one with a zipper). These pockets are placed slightly higher to balance the weight of the main compartment, which tends to be heavier at the bottom. The gusset gradually widens towards the bottom to enhance stability when placed down and to create a visually lightweight appearance. It extends around the base to eliminate sharp corners. Finally, to ensure the bag retains its shape even when carrying a heavy load, the main body is carefully cut, and rounded handles are inserted and hand-stitched in place.
This is a bag designed to be used daily and to develop character over time.
