The trees are planted in and around the Kitayama region, centered on Nakagawa, Kita Ward, in the northwestern part of Kyoto City. Kitayama cedar is characterized by its straight growth, dense annual rings, and very smooth peeled bark with a uniquely elegant color and luster.
